Cheapest & Longest: Harmony KTV, followed by Ten Dollar Club
Most Accessible & Value for Money: Manekineko and Teo Heng
$12 to $27 nett for 2 hours
Tip: Avoid Friday and Saturday nights (most expensive).
I'm ranking this as #1 as this is my absolute favourite - their outlets are highly accessible, have plenty of rooms available and they have the widest selection of free-flow drinks!
Formerly known as KBox, Manekineko is its newly-revamped brand that channels a younger and more fun vibe for the masses. Its selection of karaoke songs are frequently updated and available in a number of different languages - Chinese, Korean, Japanese, English, etc. For drama fans, you'll be able to find your favourite drama OSTs easily as well. You're also entitled to free-flow drinks, ice-cream and snacks!
6 Locations: *SCAPE, Bugis+, Marina Square ($2 higher), SAFRA Jurong, SAFRA Punggol and SAFRA Toa Payoh
2. Teo Heng
$8 to $12 per room per hour.
Rates are charged by room and not per person, so if you're going in a group, you could be paying as little as $1.20 each during Happy Hours! Of course, having more people hogging the mike also means you'll be singing less... They also have a 3-hour package offer for Mondays - Thursdays. The selection of songs is fairly extensive but not as updated as some of the other brands. Drinks and snacks can be purchased from the reception from as little as $1 each.
Unfortunately, you need to book way in advance to reserve a slot - often 1 to 2 weeks before. It is virtually impossible to walk in after work or on weekends and hope they'll have a room available for you.
8 Locations: Star Vista, Causeway Point, Jcube, Suntec City, Hotel Rendezvous, Junction 10, Katong, Sembawang
3. Ten Dollar Club KTV --> Sing for 5 hours!
$10++ per person for 5 hours
If you enjoy singing for longer than 3 hours, this would be the cheapest place to go for your karaoke desires. You'll need a minimum of 3 people for a room, or simply pay a minimum charge ($30 before 7pm, $40 after). Free-flow drinks are served throughout, and it is best for families or the older folks.
However, reservations need to be made in advance due to its popularity. The selection of songs are not as updated, and there are limited English tracks compared to the other karaoke providers.
3 Locations: Chinatown, Balestier, Downtown East
4. Tang Music Studio
$5 to $15 per pax for 3 hours. Minimum spending of $40 and above per room.
With rooms of various sizes, this place can cater for small to extremely large parties of 40 people. The staff are very professional and friendly, even offering blankets if customers are feeling cold. Selection of songs is fairly updated, although not as extensive if you're a drama fan hoping to sing some of your favourite OSTs. Comes with a mini supermarket with a wide range of snacks and drinks available for purchase.
Opening hours are till 6am on Fridays, Saturdays and eve of PHs.
1 Location: Clarke Quay
5. Harmony KTV --> Sing for 9 hours + most flexible!
$10 per pax for 9 hours from 2pm - 11pm
This place wins hands-down for being the CHEAPEST and most flexible KTV provider, and is also a closely-guarded secret by many karaoke fanatics because of how affordable it is on the wallet. Drinks are available for cheap, or you can bring in your own non-alcoholic drinks. The best part is that you'll be able to pause your singing in between, go out for a meal and come back again to finish your session if you like.
Best to call in advance to book your slot, especially if you're intending to sing till late as they are only open from 2pm - 9pm if there are no reservations.
1 Location: Sultan Plaza (near Golden Mile Complex)
6. K Star Karaoke
$6 to $15 per room per hour
If you're the sort who can only sing on weekends, you might want to head here instead as their weekend rates per hour are among the lowest. They also have offer snacks and drinks from $1 onwards. Not sure about the selection of songs as I've not been there before, but they claim to update it bi-weekly, so let me know if you've tried them out and I'll update this space!
1 Location: Bukit Timah CC (near Beauty World MRT)
7. Cash Studio KTV
Not exactly the cheapest, but I'm including this in the list as its rates are still affordable compared to some other joints, and most importantly, if you're looking for a karaoke place you can walk into without advance booking, Cash Studio will most likely be your safest bet as they're not as crowded as the other places on this list.
if you're a member you also can chalk up significant savings for repeat visits. The rooms are dimly-lit and some can smell of cigarette smoke, but if you're not fussy about the rooms, the selection of songs is also pretty good (I was able to find a few songs that other outlets did not have). Their locations might be a little out of the way for some, but I find the branches in town fairly easy to reach.
5 Locations: Ming Arcade, Cuppage Plaza, Prinsep Street, Bedok Central, Simpang Bedok
8. Neway in City Square, Johor Bahru
While Neway isn't technically located in Singapore, it is close enough and extremely cheap if you don't mind crossing immigration to get there for your karaoke fix. For students, it is only RM22 for non-peak hours on weekdays (less than SGD 8!).
I've not been there before either but according to readers feedback (see in comments), it seems like it has a fairly wide selection of English, Chinese, Japanese and even Korean songs for you to choose from. Coupled with the falling ringgit, I wouldn't mind heading here sometime soon!
1 Outlet: Level 5, Johor Bahru City Square
If you know of any other cheap KTV locations, do let me know so I can add to this list!
